    OUR CURRICULUM

    A highly effective knowledge-engaged curriculum, consistently driven by the explicit teaching of vocabulary and reading, informed by educational research into how children acquire and retain knowledge, enhanced by exceptional development of our children’s character.

    All children at Mount Grace School follow a broad and balanced curriculum which allows them to thrive both as students and individuals in society. Teachers at Mount Grace School engage in educational research, professional networks and further study in order to design and sequence a curriculum that leads to academic excellence and strong character development for their next steps.

    CURRICULUM STRUCTURE

    YEAR 7, 8, 9 (KEY STAGE 3): All students study all subjects in order to benefit from the breadth of learning on offer across a range of subjects that explore the best of what has been said and thought about that subject: 

    • English Literature, Language
    • Mathematics
    • Science
    • History
    • Geography
    • French
    • Latin
    • Citizenship
    • Religious Education
    • Art
    • Drama
    • Music
    • Food Technology
    • Design and Technology 
    • Graphics Communication
    • Physical Education

    YEAR 10 & 11 (KEY STAGE 4)

    Compulsory Qualification Subjects

    These are the core subjects that all students at Mount Grace School study and receive a GCSE qualification for:

    • English Language GCSE
    • English Literature GCSE
    • Mathematics GCSE
    • Science (Combined – two GCSEs, or Triple – separate Biology, Chemistry, Physics GCSEs)
    • Citizenship GCSE

     

    Compulsory Subjects of Study

    The following subjects are the core subjects that all students study and participate in either through formal lessons or form time/assemblies/drop down days or within some of their Citizenship lessons but do not necessarily lead to a formal externally recognised qualification:

    • Core Physical Education
    • Statutory PSHE/Sex and Relationships education
    • Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance

     

    Optional Qualification Subjects

    Students will study four additional subjects towards a formal externally recognised BTEC or GCSE qualification from the following. Subjects can include:

    GCSE Art                                                                                                             

    GCSE Business Studies   

    GCSE Computer Science                               

    GCSE Design and Technology                                     

    GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition

    YEAR 12 AND 13: 

    There is a wide range of courses on offer including both vocational BTEC and academic A Levels and Mount Grace sixth form is in consortium with Chancellor's School so that students can access a wider combination of subjects across both sites. Students will apply to a 'home' school but will access the free minibus service so that they can attend lessons on either site.

    The bespoke 6th form timetable will also include allocated study periods, access to the careers curriculum as well as time for community service or school-wide student leadership roles.
